What is construction permit data?
Construction permit data is the public record of building activity that local governments create when they issue permits, schedule inspections, record violations, and post stop-work orders. PermitData collects these records from hundreds of municipal sources and normalizes them into one consistent schema.
Where does PermitData get its data?
From official municipal and county permitting systems — the same public records each jurisdiction publishes. We ingest, clean, deduplicate, and standardize them so records from different cities line up field-for-field.
Which areas do you cover?
Our free public sample covers Florida across 37 jurisdictions and a rolling 90-day window. For bulk orders we source nationally from hundreds of municipal systems — tell us the states and counties you need and we'll confirm coverage. Browse current coverage by county and trade.
What format is the data delivered in?
A single normalized table delivered as CSV or Parquet, with one row per record, standardized trade categories and statuses, and the source municipality plus original ID retained for traceability. Addresses are geocoded where available. See what's in a permit record.
How fresh is the data, and how often is it updated?
The public sample reflects a rolling 90-day window. Bulk orders can include full historical backfill and continuous refreshes (daily or weekly) delivered as a feed.
How much does permit data cost?
Pricing is per-record and scales with volume. Typical orders range from a few hundred dollars for a single-county snapshot to enterprise feeds for continuous national delivery. You get a fixed quote before you pay — no subscriptions required. Payment is via Stripe.
Can I get contractor leads from permit data?
Yes. Each permit names the contractor, license number, address, and work type, so the dataset doubles as a continuously refreshed contractor lead list filterable by trade, county, and date. See using permit data for lead generation.
Is it legal to use this data?
Building permits are public records. PermitData aggregates and standardizes that public information; you receive a license to use the delivered dataset for your business purposes.
Do you offer an API?
Bulk file delivery (CSV/Parquet) is the standard product. Programmatic and feed-based delivery is available for enterprise orders — just mention it in your quote request.
